Thread: Is it worth scheduling your own indicators in MT4/MT5?

  1. #1
I've been thinking about learning MQL4/MQL5 for months to create my own indicators and stop relying on third-party scripts or buying things that then don't do what they promise. The question is: is it really worth spending time on learning to program your own tools if all I want is to have a couple of custom indicators? Or better to pay someone to do them to me?

If you have no idea about programming, you're going to lose weeks to do what someone else does to you for $25 at Fiverr. Unless you like programming, don't waste your time.

It depends on how much you want to customize. If it’s something very specific, it’s worth it. I learned MQL4 and now I make my own indicators and EAs. I don’t depend on anyone and adjust everything to my style.

I learned the basics just to stop looking for “miraculous” indicators everywhere. Programming helped me better understand how everything works. Although I don’t do anything complex, it has given me an advantage.

Would you make your own car? No, right? Well, this is the same. If there are people who know how to do better, pay and do your thing.

What an absurd comparison. Here we are not talking about a car but about simple lines of code. With some YouTube tutorials you learn the basics in a week.

I'm right in that process. I started two months ago with MQL5 and now I'm trying out an indicator that I made from scratch. Perfect? No. Useful? A lot.

My recommendation is to learn the right thing to understand what they give you if you hire someone, so at least they don't sell you smoke disguised as code.

If you have a system of your own and want to automate it, it is essential to know how to program or at least understand what your EA does. If not, you will be blind to bugs.

I paid for an EA and didn’t understand anything. I lost more money for not knowing how to read the code than for the bad entries. Since then I learned the basics and avoided surprises.
