View Full Version : Simplest Daily EMA Cross System
I just finished backtesting for USD/CHF same time interval as above (January 2007 to present) but changed the EMA cross over from 5/8 to 3/8. The change brought an additional 300 pips.
USD/CHF 1353 Pips (Gross)
-240 pips for disperse (4 pips spread)
1113 Pips net
Hi dreamliner
there must huge drawdown, right? So possibly for 10 k account we should use a micro lot?
Did u use vhands or somethin like backtest this method?
thanks
Plus almost 300 varying from 5/8 to 3/8 on Cable to get a total of 1089 net pips to the interval.

See if this will help You out dreamliner. Hope I perform the upload right....

You're saying require a new trade every day rather than going signal to signal? In this pic, in the first up arrow you'd begin your daily trades. And each day require a new trade since you're still at the correct direction. And for those 3 red candles in the top you'd have a losing trade daily -- and also a loser about the red candle just before the down arrow?

I made a ea to test this procedure (I like easy ), results for majors / 20 years (1990 - now ) below (alpari information 00:00)

Your EMA cross indior looks to the long run = repaints
Do not squander your time for backtesting. Or put 2 MA on chart and also test
Cool system. Have you got any stats on what the chances were that 7 will be open at any moment? Also, do you know what your largest daily drawdown would have been?
The way he explained it, it seems like you'd pretty much always have a commerce open on every pair.
Cool system. Do you have any stats on what the chances were that all 7 would be open at any time? Also, would you understand what your biggest daily drawdown would have been?
How he explained it, it seems just like you would pretty much always have a trade open on every pair. I interpreted the initial post to imply that a cross to the upside would imply carrying a long trade in the market price and near the trade at the conclusion of the first day, vice versa for shorts
Andy
Oh, so only one trade per cross? Maybe so -- , clarify please.
I interpreted the initial post to imply that a cross into the upside would imply taking a long trade in the market price and near the transaction at the end of the first day, vice versa for shorts
Andy
You're saying take a new trade every day instead of going signal to signal? In this pic, at the first up arrow you'd begin your daily transactions. And each day take a new trade as you're still in the correct direction. And for those 3 red candles at the top you'd have a losing trade each day -- and also a loser on the red candle just before the arrow? No! What I said is, whenever you have the sign, enter using a market order in the direction of the cross. Close the transaction 24 hours afterwards out. Until you receive another signal no more transactions.
See if this will give you a hand dreamliner. Hope I do the upload directly.... Which are such indiors for?
Hi ya ,
Just wondering if you'd take the trade at the green arrows I have put on the bars on the chart that go beyond the MA cross bar simply to confirm it is a good trade and also where would you be putting your stop loss?
thanx,

I created an ea to examine this process (I like straightforward ), results for majors / 20 years (1990 - today) under (alpari data 00:00) Notice this little ray of fact does not block the fantasy train from slipping on.
Notice how this tiny ray of fact does not stop the dream train from falling on. I guess folks think they've discovered the grail -sad.
Notice how this little ray of fact doesn't stop the dream train from plunging on. Craig,
's backtests have favorable results, though your set of backtests are unfavorable. Why should we accept your backtests as being accurate and 's backtests aren't?
Many attempts at backtesting simply fail. There's no substitute for testing that is forwards. That's how I'll be judging the merits of the system.
,
Many thanks for sharing your own body and your optimisim. I'm excited about analyzing your egy.
Bob
I think the guy only got excited and pulled the trigger too fast.
I enjoy the lots of pips name LOL.
Hey loophole, here is another method for you. Attempt to see if is far better than the previous one! LOL
Have this particular setup and simple is the best way to go and usually ends up being the very best in a intrie environment. Stupid question. In the crossover entrance, which EMA crossover decides a brief or long entrance?
Due Dev.
I also use a very simple MACD/RSI indior that usually naild a range tope or underside over 95 percent of their time.
Disregard the poll, folks are voting without having done the backtesting that has been a necessity in order to vote.
Greetings friends,
I have tried many things in the Forex world and so far have discovered countless ways that will not work for me. I can not seem to guess market leadership well, I despise scalping personally, and also carry trades have gotten me margin called.
However, I do believe I have found a method that works for me. While I discuss this method you're going to believe it's too straightforward, and certainly will...
Haven't finished reading the thread....
But firstly thanks to with this excellent contribution.
It looks simple, but so it looks promising.
IS THERE AN EA MADE YET???
If not, I can make one right away.
Let me know...

Allow me to know.... Charvo, would you add email alert to 's indior?
Charvo, could you add email alert to 's indior? I'd try that following EA is coded. Bear with me, please.
I believe that I coded the EA right.
But the backtests demone that it is far from becoming profitable in accore with the rules.
I will upload the EA once I get it . It is a crap.
I really don't understand what my EA's problem is.
One query:
Should I wish to put a LONG on Wednesday 00:01 am, I have to get a EMA cross signal that has:
1. Monday EMA5 lt; Monday EMA8
2. Tuesday EMA5 gt; Tuesday EMA8
Are these 2 conditions enough to get a valid cross? Or I also need...?
Please see the attached chart.
About 2008 July 25 00:01 AM, the EMA crossed on the prior day (July 24th, with a red arrow on top). In July 25's 1st minute, the machine entered a short trade.
That afternoon, as you can see (with a red vertical line), is a reduction, when closed in the conclusion of day.
Then gbpusd fall 2400 pips with no cross. But I would be outside of market anyway. That is unbearable due to such a trend-ching system.
Where am I incorrect at?

Where am I wrong at? Hello Charvo. I believe that your logic is solid. I for one expected a few signficant drawdown, so I believe that your EA did exactly what I would have expected. would understand better of course, and I'll take another look at your chart.
Hello Charvo. I believe that your logic is sound. I for one expected a few signficant drawdown, therefore I believe that your EA did what I would have expected. would understand better of course, and I'll take another look in the chart. I'm pretty certain that this EA is faithful to the 1st post along with the EMAcrossSignal.mq4 which dreamliner provided.
Nevertheless, it isn't so profitable, and with big drawdowns.
EA is here, anybody interested, may backtest and enhance it.
Utilize defaults, that's original rules. I found that not final at the end of day could be in fact profitable sometimes (set CloseSwitch = untrue ).
, for the backtests, do you have additional information about how many trades? Or exact?
Thanks.

Hello,
that I backtested the EA that was published earlier in the thread. If I assess it using EMA short=3 and Long=8 and 0.1 lot size it functions always pretty nicely but it can happen that I've one fatal loss which results in a margin call. How can that happen?
I tested EUR/USD from Jan 1st 2008 to Jan 1st 2009. Loss occurs in October.
Maybe someone could explain me that behavior.
Thanks,
Thilo
P.S.: I attached the file in the Last post one more time. (it is not from me)

P.S.: I attached the document in the previous post one more time. (it is not from me) First off, margin calls may and will happen at any given time... Nature of the monster for trading... second... did you over extend on you equity or even free margin... so when a trade goes against you. . Margin call will be triggered to pay your own account expenses? ... So cash management is essential for any transaction... consistently have enough in the account for every trade to pay for margin call... less likely to get a margin call. . .hopes this helps ... ...
First off, margin calls may and will happen at any given moment... Margin call will be triggered to pay your account expenses? ... So money management is essential for any trade... consistently have enough in the account for each transaction to pay margin call... less inclined to have a margin call. . .hopes this assists... buffalopip... I understand that money management is very crucial. I was wondering if someone looked already nearer within this EA and may tell me why it doesn't stop out in any given stage? (especially in the EUR/USD instance )
If I change the EA and include a Stop loss in every order that the machine generates not profit but goes slowly down to a zero balance.
Any advise? Since the EA differently performes really great I'm very interested in this particular question.
Thanks,
thilo
Use a 5 day ATR stop reduction... can help avoid those tardes that reverse and start consuming all of your profits. . Or use the previous day High or Low for a halt loss then add a few more pips for breathing room.... Thats up to you for the pip size... feel out it... will save lots of pips, instead of leaving the rear door open and have pips removed for no reason whatsoever... use a stop loss, anykind.... Then adapt to the commerce...
Hi,
that I just need to add that I also played the 5/8 ema cross daily TF recently, but the MM I used was 1 X ATR(13) for both SL and 1.5 X ATR(13) for TP. I got intriguing results bactesting 13 pairs from Jan2009 to June2009 (see results), only trading in the direction of greater TF.
Merely to compare with results on post #1, I backtested GBPUSD out of data from 2007 and 2008 and got 2980 pips ( 3145 pips minus -165 pips for spread). In general, the triumph ratio was 61% wich is not really high, however, the RR seems appropriate. 2007 was a tough season (53% win ratio) and 2008 a lot better (69%). But trading lots of pairs should measure the winning rate to some regular positive outcome in time. Just my two pips.

Disregard the poll, folks are voting without having done the backtesting that has been a necessity in order to vote.
Greetings friends,
I have tried many things in the Forex planet and so much have discovered countless ways that will not work for me. I can't appear to guess market direction well, I despise scalping personally, and carry trades have gotten me margin called.
However, I do believe I have found a method that works for me. While I discuss this method you are likely to think it is too straightforward, and will want to start adding indiors, altering time frames, decreasing stop losses, including take profits and multiples lots. That is all fine to do, but I would only ask that you begin a new thread to do so, since the purpose of this thread is for anybody eager to perform significant backtesting on unique pairs.
This technique netted (including disperse ) 8294 pips since the start of 2007 until now (see backtesting results below) or 331 pips each month. And this is just with 7 pairs. We can increase this with extra pairs, therefore my request to help backtest.
This is the method:
Time Frame: Daily
Entry: 8 and 5 EMA cross (connected indior is everything you will need )
Exit: End of next day
So here is how it works. In 00 (midnight) GMT assess the charts and see if the EMAs have crossed. If this is the case, enter a market order in the direction of the cross. No stop losses, no take profits.
The following day at 00 (midnight) GMT near the order.
I told you it was really straightforward. Here are back test results from January 2007 before the present (2-11-09).
GBP/JPY 2301 Pips (Gross)
-470 pips for disperse (10 pips spread)
1831 Pips internet
GBP/USD 839 Pips (Gross)
-48 pips for disperse (5 pips spread)
791 Pips internet
AUD/JPY 1606 Pips (Gross)
-520 pips for disperse (10 pips spread)
1086 Pips internet
GBP/CHF 1487 Pips (Gross)
-530 pips for disperse (10 pips spread)
957 Pips internet
USD/CHF 813 Pips (Gross)
-216 pips for disperse (4 pips spread)
597 Pips internet
EUR/GBP 1199 Pips (Gross)
-159 pips for disperse (3 pips spread)
1040 Pips internet
EUR/USD 2098 Pips (Gross) I utilized 3/8 EMA crossover rather than 5/8
-106 pips for disperse (2 pips spread)
1992 Pips internet
I haven't had time to examine different pairs. I feel that shing from 5/8 EMA cross to 3/8 would benefit USD/CHF and possibly GBP/USD as well but haven't had time to check.
So again, the purpose of this thread is for anybody to help backtest this technique on other pairs, using just the EMA cross indior for entry, and final at the end of this 24 hour interval.
Anticipating hearing from you as you can.
