Thread: Is This The Best MA Cross?

  1. #1
I have been analyzing different MA crosses with HullMA,JurikMA ,Kalman filter,Low pass filter,AMA,FAMA,TilsonMA,SATL,FATL,WMA,EMA,LWMA etc.. In my view the best MA cross is based moving average(Snake MA) using Tilson MA.Centered moving average(SnakeMA) has bicycle estimation worth and Tilson moving average is not the fastest moving average but it doesn't overshoot and it's very smooth.I have attempted this pair on 1 minute chart it repaints 1 bar in steady market conditions. But once the markets are very volatile during the news that the spike yanking the snake moving average very quickly and that is causing 2-3 pub.
So any proposal out of coding point of view?

You need to watch the data per bar rather than the line itself to ascertain if an indior is repainting. The way mt4 utilizes to draw lines and curves causes what appears to be repainting during rapid moves of the current candle. Open the data window and inspect the values from 1-3 bars back and watch their values through a rapid motion of the current candle.

Hrm, does this occur about the snake MA? I have never noticed back-painting on a EMA before.

As for which is the best... is not it always only a trade-off involving whipsaw and lag?

Well not exactly.I mean Hull moving average has zero lag but it overshoots.I could not get a fantastic cross system from Hull and all the fancy digital signal processing indiors, in my view they aren't better than EMA cross if not any.You cant rely upon only two moving average crossing in trading that you should have additional filters.I believe MA crossing is more dependable than 0-100 kind oscillators due to the fact that they follow the price.

Nod. Technically speaking the HMA isn't zero lag. The issue is it overcompensates, so ya... I have had the same trouble trying to make a cross from it. I have had better luck w/ shorter-term EMA crosses over an HMA.

I do not use them as an entrance signal, only to help verify the trend and provide an exit signal. Combined w/ pivots it makes a decent system at the least. 3/9 EMA about the 15M and 30M charts.

What settings do you need on these MAs?

I've been testing snake and T3 cross in 1, 5 and 15 minutes and I've detected 4 to 5 bars. I contrasted with a 5 period EMA and I didn`t observe any repainting with EMA however only a logical motion in the last busy bar that stops immediately when the bar is shut.

What I believe is the Holy grail cross doesn`t exist and also the main reason snake using T3 cross is indeed eloquent is that snake is repainting back the last 4 or 5 bars getting by this manner a smooth curve. Attempt and write down the information of a snake indior and examine it with the information of the same bars laters. You will see unique data. If you paint snake curve with the information you wrote down at the conclusion of each bar you may discover that the curve is not too smooth but is much more like the EMA(5), i.e, similar to sawteeth.

Furthermore in the event that you consider that you must wait 4 to 5 bars to be sure the cross between snake and T3 exist, as a result of repainting of snake, you'll loose the non lag land of this snake indior.

Conclusion: Snake it's not so good when trading realtime compared with a back test trading. As trader I will say that I've never found very good customized indiors out of the classics. One that it is not so classic but it goog is LINREG.

I apologize for the poor english. I'm italian.

    Good Luck

Laff, in case it repaints then it is useless as an entrance (and perhaps as a departure) signal.

Hi everyone. I would like to say a huge thank you for posting this 2 indiors. I have been having better trading sessions with these 2 indiors.

Pay close attentions to the Gold Vs Yellow line. It is a clear observation of the market's management.
