Thread: Oanda or Alpari?

  1. #1
    Hello
I'd like to open a live account to test my egy.
My mended points to select a broker are:

    Euro account
    200/400USD account minimal
    Smallest sum to exchange

Oanda has better spreads but Alpari has MT4.

    That one you suggest?
If you understand another broker better than those two please tell me.

First I have to mention I've live accounts in Oanda and Alpari UK.

    So I know the differences.

Oanda has a max. Leverage of 50:1, Alpari has a leverage of 100:1. Should you write an eMail to them, you get around 500:1 in the event that you require it.

Oanda has better spreads. 0.9 pips in EUR/USD in which Alpari has 2.0. Oanda has usually instant fills for limitation, cease and market orders. Alpari is a dealing desk broker. You'll have some slippage of around 2 pips virtually the time.

Oanda pays interest to your free margin at which Alpari don't.

Oanda allows lesser ranking dimensions (down to 1 device that's 0.00001 lots, in which Alpari just has micro lots: 1,000 units = 0.01 lots)

The only reason I'd prefer Alpari is due to Metatrader and utilizing expert advisors (automated trading systems). If you don't use any automatization, you don't need them. You could use Metatrader as a chart tool and Oanda for your own orders.

Spread widening happens both in Oanda (20 pips @ GBP/USD during news) and Alpari (20 pips @ GBP/USD too).

There is one thing: As Alpari UK is an european broker they have guaranteed funds up to 20k, in which Oanda doesn't have something like this. But that is not that significant as it seems.

If you want to scalp, overlook Alpari. If you wish to use expert advisors you need to use Alpari.
    I'd always prefer Oanda.

    Regards -

Can you trust oanda with $100,000 accounts? Or should you no longer be trading with retail brokers?

I wouldn't anticipate any bucketshop broker with 100k. If you plan on investing that much, go with a real broker that passes your trades via a real marketplace. There is no reason to place that type of cash in a bucketshop.

exactly. You would not even be considering forex, trade futures.

Yep, I will not use Oanda or any other retail broker with $100k. I'd use a real broker afterward, not a market maker.

Oanda is not a dealing desk broker! Oanda doesn't trade against you, that is for sure.
