Thread: What the heck happened to the EUR this AM?

Being a relative newb here, I would like someone to offer an excuse as to why the rate increase announcement triggered a massive selloff? Why did the Cable fall too?

Thanks Ahead of Time. I am only trying to find out FA and right now it's befuddling me. I presumed that rate increases HELPED the currency?

Excluding technical analysis that I use, I believe everyone was anticipating a potential rate increase in November, but it looks like December. The unemployment from the US was anticipated. This is normally a buy.

The rate increase was priced in. The comments Trichet later made traders disappointed. He declined to comment on rate increases after 2006 and did not use the keywords strong vigilance which declare that a new rate increase is around the corner.

Concerning the GBP - EUR and the cable are highly correlated.

Thanks, for the replies. I watched the jobless claims numbers, but all I've been hearing this week is how gloomy the U.S. economy outlook is, so the dollar's spike upward had me a bit confused.

I have heard others state that the EUR rate growth had already been factored in, however I just didn't see so sharp that a fall coming as a result of positive news.

Is there anywhere I can go to read up on this stuff? My economics is somewhat rusty and I am interested as to what FA factors weigh more heavily in regards to affecting price action.

I actually made 25 pips on the drop, set a sell in final nite before bed, place TP into 1.2675 and triggered now.

WellI really don't know much either. Simply use the commentator messages in my platform, other trader's here and you'll be able to click on READ in the Currency Market calendar with this site to offer you some idea.

The BOE stuck with their current rate. Not everything to do with their significance in this case.

So nothing is likely to plan and it is all of a sudden all quite on the western front....something's going to happen but what?
